The Freeing Captives project is the inspiration of Bethany Carmichael, now a full time missionary with Freedom Ministries; working on behalf of victims of Sex Trafficking.

At the age of seventeen God first impressed Bethany’s heart with a burden for young girls who have been enslaved as prostitutes.  During 2009 through 2010 Bethany founded and directed a chapter of the Not For Sale ministry on the campus of Montreat College.  She also volunteered at a safe house in North Carolina for minor domestic victims of Sex Trafficking.  Graduating from Montreat College in 2010, Bethany went on to attend a six month Justice Focused Discipleship Training School with Youth With a Mission (YWAM) in 2011, receiving more training in justice focused ministry.  After six months of ministry with YWAM in Switzerland, Amsterdam, and Ireland, she was invited by pastor and his wife spent one month with them at their home India.  In India Bethany learned more about the culture, the people, and ministry specifically within that environment.  She spent time ministering with Bombay Teen Challenge and Project Rescue, learning more about the issues of Sex Trafficking within India and how to effectively reach victims with the Gospel of Christ Jesus.

Now in Virginia, Bethany is has partnered with local justice organizations; combating Sex Trafficking within Virginia and in the United States.  Serving victims of Sex Trafficking is Bethany’s heart, her passion, and her clear call from God.  He has allowed her to make connections overseas and has given her cross cultural heart for ministry.
